This is a relatively new method, which is used only in a few European countries. That is why it is important to note that the Dr. Maurins Clinic of Phlebology and Laser Medicine is the only one clinic in the Eastern Europe, which provides hemorrhoids treatmentin this way.

In fact, laser treatment of hemorrhoids consists in the cauterizing of blood vessels by a laser. This is necessary because blood flows through them more than needed, which causes bleeding.

After the operation, which is performed under the local anesthesia, the patient does not have to stay at hospital and can go home the same day. The procedure is painless; people also do not feel pain after it.

HeLP technique is used in the initial stages (1-2), while in more neglected cases (stages 2-3) we use LHP technique.

Procedures and equipment

In early stages (stage 1-2) of hemorrhoidal desease the most highly effective method of its removal is laser surgery by the HeLP method.

The Dr. Maurins Clinic of Laser Medicine was the first clinic in Eastern Europe, which began to use the HeLP method . This is a relatively new technique of hemorrhoids treatment not only in Latvia but in the whole world. During the procedure, blood vessels, which feed the hemorrhoids are cauterized by laser.

In more neglected cases (2-3 stages of hemorrhoidal disease) we offer the laser removal of hemorrhoids with the help of LHP method. The method consists in cauterizing the hemorrhoid, which have already prolapsed. The hemorrhoid is pierced by a needle and cauterized inside by laser. Then it is sintered and erodes right on your eyes. This treatment of hemorrhoidal disease already requires anesthesia (spinal or general) and takes about half an hour.

How is the laser removal of hemorrhoids performed?

Proctologist conducts the examination. Doctor is assisted by a nurse. The procedure is performed in a specially equipped room. The patient usually lies on his/her  side. The doctor examines the anal area. Palpation is painless, because doctor uses a special cream.

Patients with severe pain can feel discomfort during the examination. In this case, we propose to hold the procedure using an anesthetic spray and a special gel.

The initial examination in most cases is carried out with a help of proctologic compact mirror. This procedure is painless too.

In most cases the information obtained during the examination is enough to assess patient's problems. If there is a suspicion, especially in cases of bleeding, doctor will appoint an additional investigation but only a small number of patients need this.

It is important to check that we do not cope with a malignant tumor of the intestine or other serious disease, the symptoms of which are similar to the symptoms of hemorrhoids. That is why patients should not delay the visit to the doctor, if they have discomfort in the anal area.

After the examination and consultation of proctologist, doctor can prepare a detailed plan of treatment and determine the final cost of the operation.

What is the hemorrhoidal disease?

Each person has a vascular plexus around the anus, which mainly consists of veins. This plexus of blood vessels can be compared with the seal, which helps to close the rectal hole. Often during the life this plexus enlargesunder the influence of various factorsand starts to interfere. This is what we know as hemorrhoidal disease or hemorrhoids.

How does hemorrhoidal disease make itself felt?

The symptoms are very different. Discomfort in the rectum, itching, bloody excreta, bleeding during the defecating, bowel inflammation (painful, swollen formations in the anal area). In the later stages hemorrhoids prolapse during the defecating or physical exercises.

Hemorrhoidal disease can be relatively harmless with small cracks of mucous membrane or small polypuses, but often this disease can be very serious. As a result it causes rectal cancer, ulcerative colitis or Crohn's disease.

Hemorrhoids phases

Stage 1.  Enlarged internal hemorrhoids, there have been no prolapse yet.

Stage 2. The prolapse of internal hemorrhoids during phisical activity or exertion. They return on their place after reducing of phisical exertion.

Stage 3. The prolapse of internal hemorrhoids during phisical activity or exertion. They do not return on their place after reducing of phisical exertion without the help of a hand.

Stage 4. Internal hemorrhoids are permanently outside of anus, they can not be returned on their place even with the help of the hand.

Can patients diagnose hemorrhoidal disease themselves? Can hemorrhoids be treated by traditional medicine?

On question of the proctologist about their complaints, patients often respond:  "I have hemorrhoids." During a further conversation it appears that the patient diagnosed the disease him(her)self. Sometimes, the proctologist confirms the view of the patient after the examination.

Unfortunately, in some cases the examination shows that patients with self diagnosis "hemorrhoids" hasmore serious disease (cancer, rectal inflammation, ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease, etc.). It is  particularly tragic when a cancer is in advanced stage and it is late to take any action.

Only doctor can establish the correct diagnosis. The consultation with the proctologist and proctologic examination are necessary for clarifying or excluding suspicions about hemorrhoids.

Is it true thatproblems with hemorrhoids can be solved only by a surgery?

There are many opinions, that the surgeon-proctologist operates each patient, who comes with such problems. There are cases when the operation is imminent, but modern proctology also uses other methods of treatment. The main problem is to overcome yourself and overgo the examination. Modern treatment generally consists in laser treatment.

Does the patient need to do any special preparations before visiting the proctologist?

Before the first visit, you do not need to do any special preparations. Many people think that they must not eat and drink the whole day before the visit or have to clean the intestines using the medicines. It is not necessary. Ifthe patient subjectively feels such a need , he/she can make a microclysters with medications available at any pharmacy without prescription. But it is optional.
